Zaranj is a dusty trade hub where the desert meets bureaucracy. The city exists for truckers moving goods between Iran and Afghanistan—expect diesel fumes, checkpoints, and a cash-only economy. Nimruz University brings some students, but this isn't a place for cultural amenities. The Pul-i-Abresham border crossing means constant security scrutiny; don't even think about crossing without a local fixer handling the paperwork.

Living in Zaranj means accepting extreme isolation. The airport is a 20km slog through desert roads, and medical care is barebones. You'll need fluent Dari or Pashto to navigate daily tasks—no English infrastructure here. This city only makes sense for hardened expats running logistics operations or aid workers with institutional backing.
