Old Road, Antigua and Barbuda

Old Road feels like a quiet coastal village that got left behind when Antigua’s tourism boom hit. The Shekerley Mountains cut it off from the island’s busier areas—you’ll drive winding roads past goats and abandoned sugar mills to reach it. Don’t expect expat amenities here: the sports complex and two decent beaches (Morris Bay and Carlisle Bay) are the main draws, along with a tight-knit local scene centered around cricket and football.

This isn’t a plug-and-play expat destination. The UPP’s political stronghold means infrastructure upgrades move slowly, and you’ll need a car to navigate the mountain roads. But if you want to live where Antiguans actually live, with ocean views and Boggy Peak’s green slopes as your backdrop, it’s one of the last affordable coastal spots. Just know ‘affordable’ here means basic—the primary school and a few shops are all you get.
